The 81st Venice Film Festival Opened The Golden Lion Hunt
Yesterday, August 28, the world premiere of Beatlejuice Beatlejuice by Tim Burton kicked off the 81st edition of Venice Film Festival. One of the most prestigious film festivals in the world will last till September 7 when the main award - Golden Lion - will be handed to the best feature film in Competition.
Twenty-one films will be presented for Competition, including the most anticipated this year, such as Todd Phillips' sequel Joker: Folie à Deux; Pedro Almodóvar’s first English-language film The Room Next Door starring Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton; Halina Reijn erotic thriller Babygirl starring Kidman and Harris Dickinson; Pablo Larraín’s Maria about Maria Callas life starring Angelina Jolie; as well as Luca Guadagnino’s William S. Burroughs adaptation Queer with Daniel Craig and Jason Schwartzman.

The guests of the festival will also be able to see other premieres of awaited Hollywood films (besides the already mentioned Beatlejuice Beatlejuice), such as Wolfs starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney; Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2 directed and starred by Kevin Costner and many others.
One Golden Lion has already reached its owner: iconic American actress and three-time Academy Award nominee Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Gorillas in the Mist, Galaxy Quest) has been awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
