This week all spotlights will turn again to Berlin, as starting from February 13 it will host the 75th International Film Festival - Berlinale.

As usual, the greatest attention will be directed to the main Competition where 19 films will compete for Golden and Silver Bears. 17 of the films will be world premieres with their production representing 26 countries.

The films in this year’s Competition will showcase the breadth of cinema and offer fascinating glimpses into different lives, ways of seeing the world and crafting cinema. There are intimate dramas that ask audiences to understand human fragilities and strengths; gentle comedies that are introspective, soul-searching and humanist, and also the sharpest, blackest satires; films that pay homage to cinematic greats and films that use the art form’s fullest canvas. Each of these singular works will show filmmakers from around the world at the top of their craft.

In addition to the Competition, Berlinale also offer a number of other exciting sections, such as Berlinale Special - one of the festival’s most versatile programmes, including glamour and popular films in the Gala Premieres, in-depth debates at the panel discussions, a spotlight on current topics, unusual formats and the honouring of extraordinary film personalities.

Perspectives - the international competitive strand for fiction feature debuts resulting in the Best First Feature Award. Panorama, which screens extraordinary cinema and is explicitly queer, explicitly feminist, explicitly political - and at the same time seeks to think beyond these categories - always looking for what is new, daring, unconventional and wild in today’s cinema. Berlinale Shorts with the films that radiate the full range of colours, stretch the boundaries and lay down new tracks in the vast field of cinematic possibilities, and other sections, which will suit the needs of any film-loving audience or critics.

The International Jury under the presidency of Todd Haynes, the Perspectives Jury, the International Short Film Jury and the Berlinale Documentary Award Jury will present the winners at Berlinale Palast on February 22.
