The 77th Golden Globes Announced Their Winners

It has finally started! Yesterday night the 77th Golden Globes ceremony announced the best ones in the filmmaking industry, unlocking the chain of the major annual cinematography awards. Will this year's Golden Globes turn into the early birds for Oscars and other recognition titles, we just have to wait and see, and actually watch the potential nominees for ourselves.

Perhaps the biggest surprise at the ceremony was the defeat of Netflix production in motion picture categories. In the major category of Best Motion Picture - Drama, so highly acclaimed Marriage Story, which received seven nominations in total, as well as The Irishmen implemented by Martin Scorsese (5 nominations in total), were left practically with nothing and had to bow to the World War I drama 1917 written and directed by Sam Mendes who also received the Golden Globe as the Best Director.

On the other hand, the Golden Globe for the Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy well deservedly went to Tarantino's Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood, which was also honored for the Best Screenplay as well as Brad Pitt for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture. Meanwhile the controversial Joker, which divided its audience by the ones claiming it a masterpiece and the others - being absolutely meaningless, had to be content with the Golden Globe for the Best Original Score (awarded to Hildur Guðnadóttir - the first woman to win this nomination). And, of course, Joaquin Phoenix was handed the prize for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama, which was obvious from the day Joker has been released: there might have been the key sensation, if he had lost to any other candidate in the category.

Marriage Story with the highest number of nominations might feel as the biggest loser by having received only one Golden Globe, which went to Laura Dern for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture. On the contrary, Rocketman won two nominations out of three: Taron Egerton - for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, and Elton John with Bernie Taupin - for the Best Original Song - Motion Picture (I'm Gonna Love Me Again).

The Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama award went to Renée Zellweger for her stunning performance in Judy, while the Golden Globe for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy - to Awkwafina for her role of a Chinese girl who goes back from New York to China to visit her grandmother in The Farewell.

The Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language was actually easy to guess, too. The Golden Globe was awarded to Bong Joon Ho's Parasite and went to South Korea.

The Golden Globes for TV Series honored Succession in Drama category, Fleabag - in Musical or Comedy, and Chernobyl - in Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
