The 76th Golden Globes' Glory For Bohemian Rhapsody And Green Book
The first major cinematographic event of this year just announced its winners. The 76th Golden Globe Awards were handed to the ones who deserved them most according to HFPA. Probably no surprise that Bohemian Rhapsody and Rami Malek turned to be the best, though Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper should be disappointed their directing and acting efforts have been honored only in terms of the Best Original Song.
Drama category was dominated by Bohemian Rhapsody, as long before the ceremony those who have seen the movie were absolutely sure that if Rami Malek didn't receive the Best Actor Award this year, so who else could? On the contrary, in the Best Actress - Drama category the nominees were really competitive and not so predictable. We are sure, there were many betting on Lady Gaga in A Star is Born, though Glenn Close in The Wife, Nicole Kidman in Destroyer, Melissa McCarthy in Can You Ever Forgive Me and Rosamund Pike in A Private War counted as true rivals. Glenn Close has won the battle and she rightfully deserves it.
Musical or Comedy category honored Green Book, followed by the Best Actor in Supporting Role award to Mahershala Ali and Best Screenplay. Meanwhile The Best Actor - Musical or Comedy award went to Christian Bale for his transformations to feature Dick Cheney, a Vice President to George W. Bush in Vice, and The Best Actress in the same category - to Olivia Colman who embodied the frail Queen Ann in The Favourite. Regina King was named the best Actress in Supporting Role.
Atypically the Best Director Award went to the director whose movie was nominated only in the Best Foreign Language Picture category. Naturally he won both - Alfonso Cuaron and his Roma, already the winner of the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival and many other awards worldwide.
TV nominations honored The Americans in drama and The Kominsky Method in Musical or Comedy categories. While the first runs on TV since 2013, the latter is a newcomer starring Michael Douglas who also won the Golden Globe as the Best Actor in the same category.
