Chill Out With New Comedies In July
Every night I'm ready for a movie I dream of some meaningful and serious stuff for my heart and soul. However, the minute I start searching for the right movie this desire turns into a sloppy wish to put on something funny, easy and free of deep thoughts. It's summertime for the brain, too. No wonder there are some many new comedies on display in July. If you haven't seen them yet, take a look at the list. Don't forget non-binding horror and hilarious as always animation, too:
COMEDY
Plot Synopsis: In an alternate present-day version of Oakland, black telemarketer Cassius Green discovers a magical key to professional success - which propels him into a macabre universe.
Plot Synopsis: Rob Brydon stars as jaded accountant Eric, disillusioned with life, who finds unlikely solace in an all-male synchronised swimming team. Initially keeping their personal lives in the locker, the ramshackle squad and coach Susan (Charlotte Riley) slowly reveal their inner lives. As they embark on a journey to compete in the World Championships, will they sync or swim?
Plot Synopsis: The great hunter Buck Ferguson (Josh Brolin) and his trusted cameraman Don (Danny McBride) set out for an epic weekend adventure to reconnect with Buck's young son (Montana Jordan).
Plot Synopsis: Thirteen-year-old Kayla (Elsie Fisher) endures the tidal wave of contemporary suburban adolescence as she makes her way through the last week of middle school - the end of her thus far disastrous eighth grade year - before she begins high school.
Plot Synopsis: Ten years after Mamma Mia! The Movie grossed more than $600 million around the world, you are invited to return to the magical Greek island of Kalokairi in an all-new original musical based on the songs of ABBA. The film goes back and forth in time to show how relationships forged in the past resonate in the present. Lily James will play the role of Young Donna. Filling the roles of Young Rosie and Young Tanya are Alexa Davies and Jessica Keenan Wynn. Young Sam will be played by Jeremy Irvine, while Young Bill is Josh Dylan and Young Harry is Hugh Skinner.
HORROR
Plot Synopsis: Behind every tradition lies a revolution. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge. To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.
Plot Synopsis: In the fall of 1960, Father Thomas Riley (Lalor Roddy) and Father John Thornton (Ciaran Flynn) were sent by the Vatican to investigate a miraculous event in an Irish home for ‘fallen women', only to uncover something much more horrific.
Plot Synopsis: When a 20-something finds a cache of hidden files on his new laptop, he is thrust into the deep waters of the dark web.
Plot Synopsis: A young genius accidentally invents a device that amplifies the paranormal activity within his family's house, possibly bringing back the spirits of loved ones, and unleashing things far worse.
ANIMATION
Plot Synopsis: Mavis surprises Dracula with a family voyage on a luxury Monster Cruise Ship so he can take a vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. The rest of Drac’s Pack cannot resist going along, and once they leave port, romance zings Drac when he meets the mysterious ship captain, Ericka. Now it’s Mavis’ turn to play the overprotective parent, keeping her dad and Ericka apart. Little do they know that his “too good to be true” love interest is actually a descendant of Van Helsing, arch nemesis to Dracula and all monsters!
Plot Synopsis: When a hulking monster emerges from an underground resting place and begins a mindless rampage, the Justice League is quickly called in to stop the colossal force of nature. But it soon becomes apparent that only Superman can stand against the monstrosity that has been nicknamed Doomsday. Battling their way throughout America, the two fight to a standstill as they reach the heart of Metropolis. Going punch for punch, Superman finally ends the threat of Doomsday as he throws one last punch and collapses forever.
Plot Synopsis: When the Teen Titans go to the big screen, they go big! Here we find our egocentric, wildly satirical Super Heroes in their first feature film extravaganza - fresh, gleefully clever, kid-appropriately crass and tongue-in-cheek play on the superhero genre, complete with musical numbers. It seems to the Teens that all the major superheroes out there are starring in their own movies - everyone but the Teen Titans, that is! But de facto leader Robin is determined to remedy the situation, and be seen as a star instead of a sidekick. If only they could get the hottest Hollywood film director to notice them. With a few madcap ideas and a song in their heart, the Teen Titans head to Tinsel Town, certain to pull off their dream. But when the group is radically misdirected by a seriously Super-Villain and his maniacal plan to take over the Earth, things really go awry. The team finds their friendship and their fighting spirit failing, putting the very fate of the Teen Titans themselves on the line!
