Just seven days left to official declaration of spring. What a relief! To go on with this happy tune, try watching a new comedy from a rather long list of new releases. Laughing your way through the last week of this winter is definitely not a bad idea. New works of animation would also do, if you prefer visiting cinema with your little ones. And don't miss the latest releases of science fiction.
COMEDY
Plot Synopsis: While searching for any significance to his existence, suicidal Ben Layten (Thomas Middleditch) discovers that he almost had an adopted sister. With the help of his enthusiastic neighbor Tabby (Diana Bang), Ben sets out to find this not-quite sibling in an effort to discern if his life could have been different or more meaningful. While tracking down his would-be sister, he meets the mysterious Hanna Weathers (Jess Weixler) and suddenly finds himself in a very different relationship than what he'd been hoping for. Ben is forced to confront some dark truths as he faces the possibility that everything he thinks he knows about himself, and about Hanna, just isn't true… and that life, and love, is a lot more complicated than he ever imagined.
Plot Synopsis: When Kyle (Ross Lynch), a social outcast, happens upon a magical phone app that causes anything he posts to come true, he uses it to create his idea of the ‘perfect' life. He even wins the affection of the two most beautiful girls in school, Dani (Olivia Holt) and Charlotte (Courtney Eaton). However, he soon learns that the life he created is far from perfect, and that being yourself, imperfections and all, is the only way to find true happiness in life.
Plot Synopsis: A romantic ensemble comedy about modern day relationships provides insight into the complexities of the male vs female brain at varying stages of love: whether it's finding the right romantic balance; parenting; expressing emotion; or simply admitting shortcomings when a bathroom remodel goes awry. In the end, detached researcher Dr. Brizendine has to admit that her study of the brain might have a bias that she did not initially consider.
Plot Synopsis: Noah (Adam Devine) spends the perfect first night with Avery, the girl of his dreams, but gets relegated to the friend zone. He spends the next three years wondering what went wrong - until he gets the unexpected chance to travel back in time and alter that night - and his fate - over and over again. Will Noah ever get it right?
Plot Synopsis: Janet (Kristin Scott Thomas) has just been appointed to a key ministerial position in the shadow cabinet - the crowning achievement of her political career. She and her husband Bill (Timothy Spall) plan to celebrate this with a few close friends. As the guests arrive at their home in London the party takes an unexpected turn when Bill suddenly makes some explosive revelations that take everyone present by surprise. Love, friendships and political convictions are soon called into question in this hilarious comedy of tragic proportions.
Plot Synopsis: A group of friends meet regularly for their game night, and one night they find themselves investigating an actual murder mystery.
Plot Synopsis: The film explores themes of female empowerment through sex, work, and friendship. These women are able to come together through their frustration over male dominance and in fact use their newly formed sisterhood to lean on each other and understand that they must first learn to love themselves before doing anything else.
SCIENCE FICTION
Plot Synopsis: In the near future, a group of international astronauts on a space station are working to solve a massive energy crisis on Earth. The experimental technology aboard the station has an unexpected result, leaving the team isolated and fighting for their survival.
Plot Synopsis: A biologist's (Natalie Portman) husband disappears. She thus puts her name forward for an expedition into an environmental disaster zone, but does not quite find what she's expecting. The expedition team is made of the biologist, an anthropologist, a psychologist, and a surveyor.
Plot Synopsis: Berlin, the future, but close enough to feel familiar: in this loud, often brutal city, Leo (Alexander Skarsgard), unable to speak from a childhood accident, searches for his missing girlfriend, the love of his life, his salvation, through dark streets, frenzied plazas, and the full spectrum of the cities shadow-dwellers. As he seeks answers, Leo finds himself mixed up with Cactus Bill (Paul Rudd) and Duck (Justin Theroux), a pair of irreverent US army surgeons on a mission all their own.
ANIMATION
Plot Synopsis: Woody Woodpecker is back with his signature laugh, wacky antics and wisecracks in this first ever live-action/animated film. Woody must protect his forest home from Lance Walters (Timothy Omundson), who starts building his dream mansion in the forest with his son, Tommy, and fiancée, Vanessa (Thaila Ayala). To make matters worse, he must avoid the clutches of two grizzly poachers. With a series of crazy hijinks to sabotage their plans, Woody proves he'll stop at nothing to defend his turf.
Plot Synopsis: The Wishbone family isn't exactly a happy family. Mother Emma (Emily Watson) encourages the family to put their differences aside by taking them to a theme park. After a harmless joke with a doll, which turns out to be the evil witch Baba Yaga (Catherine Tate), the Wishbones are transformed into monsters. Mother Emma turns into a vampire, dad Frank (Nick Frost) becomes Frankenstein, daughter Fay (Jessica Brown Findlay) turns into a mummy, and son Max (Ethan Rouse) winds up being a werewolf! And that's when a normal ride on a ghost train turns into a ludicrously spooky adventure. Will the Wishbone family find their happy ending?
Plot Synopsis: Peter Rabbit, the mischievous and adventurous hero who has captivated generations of readers, now takes on the starring role of his own irreverent, contemporary comedy with attitude. In the film, Peter's feud with Mr. McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson) escalates to greater heights than ever before as they rival for the affections of the warm-hearted animal lover who lives next door (Rose Byrne).
Plot Synopsis: From Nick Park and Aardman Animations, the creators of Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run, comes the new pre-historic adventure. Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of courageous caveman hero Dug (Eddie Redmayne) and his best friend Hognob as they unite his tribe against a mighty enemy Lord Nooth (Tom Hiddleston) and his Bronze Age City to save their home.
