Poor July Choice Of New Horror, Comedy and Animation
High summer season rarely includes planned visits to cinema. However, if on a spur of a moment you decide to entertain yourselves or your family with a bit of big screen experience, here's a list of possible titles you'd be interested in. Especially if you adore horror movies, fancy a comedy or science fiction or still feel addicted to animation.
HORROR
Plot Synopsis: A teen girl discovers a magical box that will grant her seven wishes. As she uses her wishes for personal gain, bad things begin to happen to those around her. She discovers an evil entity lives inside the box and may be behind the gruesome deaths.
Plot Synopsis: The film follows Ryan Emerson (Brad Schmidt) who, while meeting his girlfriend Sarah's (Caroline Tudor) family for the first time, must prove his intentions and win the approval of her father, Greg (Peter O'Brien), while he masks his jealousy for Sarah's ex-fling, Tyler (Brando Eaton). As the Thomas family settles in, things start to happen around the cabin; strange footprints by the windows, noises from outside, and a bitter animosity from the locals, including the law enforcement. As a blizzard descends on Lake Alice, so does the evil from behind the camera, as the Thomas family is hunted down one by one. The family struggles to stay alive as their power in numbers slowly dwindles.
Plot Synopsis: Matt (Mathieu Ratthe), a video game developer, embeds an iPhone camera into his prosthetic eye to secretly record and document a weekend with friends in a luxurious mountain top cabin. The weekend takes a terrifying turn when a meteorite crashes the party forcing everyone to face the darkest, screaming nightmare while somehow connecting life, love, and loss in a twist of fear.
COMEDY
Plot Synopsis: After 25 years of secluded existence with his protective parents in their isolated, off-the-grid home, James is tossed out into a new life in relatively daunting Cedar Hills, Utah. As his world upends, the most shocking revelation to James is that he's the only person who has ever watched his favorite television program, Brigsby Bear Adventures. Struggling to adjust to the show's abrupt end, he begins to see Brigsby's lessons as his only way to make sense of a big, scary new world, and James decides to make a movie to end Brigsby's story - and re-begin his own.
SCIENCE FICTION
Plot Synopsis: Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner- blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him. Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha's seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time- uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.
ANIMATION
Plot Synopsis: The story of Gene, an emoji that lives inside a texting app on a teenager's smartphone. In Gene's world, each emoji has only one expression, but gene is different - he's bursting with multiple expressions. Gene is worried that if he can't find a way to be ‘normal', he'll disappoint his family, or worse, be deleted. Determined to change his unusually expressive personality, gene needs a ‘code' that will fix his programming and make him like everyone else. With the help of his emoji friends, Gene's search takes him on a fun-filled adventure across the teenager's smartphone, from his hope in a texting app through a succession of apps (including a gaming app, a music streaming app, a photo-sharing app, a video streaming app, a dance app, and a file-sharing app).
