Beware: February Movies May Frighten To Death


Thanks to Valentine, February is associated with love and fifty shades of grey forever. Oh, well, even fifty shades darker. However, new film releases point to quite a different perspective. This February everybody is going to scream with goosebumps all over their bodies, as eleven new horror movies are about to invade cinema theatres, including the sequel of the scariest The Ring.

Director: Caradog W. James Written by: Mark Huckerby, Nick Ostler Starring: Katee Sackhoff, Lucy Boynton, Javier Botet, Nick Moran Plot Synopsis: Knock once to wake her from her bed, twice to raise her from the dead... So goes a disturbing urban legend involving an abandoned house supposedly inhabited by a vengeful, child-stealing witch. When troubled teen Chloe (Lucy Boynton) raps at the door one night, she has no idea the horror she’s about to unleash. Fleeing to the country home of her estranged mother (Katee Sackhoff) - a recovering addict who’s turned her life around to become a famous artist - Chloe must learn to trust the woman who gave her up years ago in order to stop the bloodthirsty, shape-shifting demon stalking them. This wild supernatural shocker delivers a barrage of nonstop jolts and searing nightmare images.

A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…

Along the way he meets and kills several women whom he deems unworthy, eluding capture from the authorities by moving from one town to the next. When the brother of one of his victims decides to track the Ladykiller down to get vigilante justice, a revenge-fueled chase ensues. Along the way, the Ladykiller finally meets the girl of his dreams. He rescues her from a tough life, and they fall in love. But will they live happily ever after?

They soon discover strange symbols etched into the boards on the windows. In an effort to clean the house they clear them away, soon realizing the gravity of their mistake as they one by one become possessed by an evil force.

Erin, Daniel Farrands Starring: Julie Benz, Fionnula Flanagan, Belle Shouse, Josh Stamberg, Danielle Harris, Douglas Tait Plot Synopsis: A troubled young woman, Jackie (Julie Benz), with an unyielding alcohol addiction, is released from rehab and given a second chance with a new job and a furnished apartment at Havenhurst. Guilt-ridden over the tragic loss of her 8-year-old daughter, Jackie is quickly drawn into the mysteries of Havenhurst, in particular the unsolved disappearance of the apartment's previous occupant, a young woman (Danielle Harris) she befriended in rehab who disappeared recently without a trace. Aided by a hardened New York police detective (Josh Stamberg) and a lonely foster child (Belle Shouse) who lives under the shadow of her caretakers' sadistic whims, Jackie must not only battle her inner demons… but the very real ones that live deep within the walls of Havenhurst.

Director: Gore Verbinski Written by: Justin Haythe Starring: Dane DeHaan, Mia Goth, Jason Isaacs, Adrian Schiller, Annette Lober, Eric Todd Plot Synopsis: The film tells the story of an employee (Dane DeHaan) who is sent to rescue his boss from a European ‘wellness spa' but soon realizes he's trapped, and discovers that the facility has a more sinister purpose than just serving the health needs of its patients.

Director: Annie Clark, Karyn Kusama, Roxanne Benjamin, Jovanka Vuckovic Written by: Annie Clark, Karyn Kusama, Roxanne Benjamin, Jovanka Vuckovic Starring: Natalie Brown, Melanie Lynskey, Breeda Wool, Christina Kirk Plot Synopsis: A new horror anthology with a gender twist – all segments will be helmed by female directors and will star female leads. The directors have been given free creative rein within budget and time constraints, but all of the segments themselves will involve the horror genre.

Director: Hiroshi Katagiri Written by: Hiroshi Katagiri, Nathan Long, Brad Palmer Starring: Doug Jones, Lance Henriksen, Eva Swan, Simon Phillips, Justin Gordon Plot Synopsis: The pristine island of Saipan is backdrop to a terrifying tale of curiosity, secrets, ancient curses, strange dolls, and inner demons. Five people enter a hidden bunker from WW2, and realize it's way more than a bunker. Some fates are MUCH worse than death.

Director: Jordan Peel Written by: Jordan Peel Starring: Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones, Catherine Keener Plot Synopsis: When a young African-American man visits his white girlfriend's family estate, he becomes ensnared in a more sinister real reason for the invitation. Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya, Sicario) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams, Girls), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy (Catherine Keener) and Dean (Bradley Whitford). At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.
